Stunning actress Kate Beckinsale claims she was ‘mortified’ after she was branded the Sexiest Woman Alive.

The Underworld star has revealed she also hates admitting she’s the owner of the title.

Beckinsale handed the honour by Esquire magazine earlier this year, knocking beautiful Halle Berry off the number one spot.

But the Brit star insists she has struggled to cope with the title – and finds it hard when people quiz her over her new sexy status.

She said: “It’s such a nice thing to happen and then immediately it’s mortifying.

“Somebody came up to me in the street and went: ‘Are you the sexiest woman alive?’ And I went: ‘Yes,’ and then I thought: ‘Errrggh, I can’t say yes to that!’

“I should be shot on sight for that – it’s awful!”

British actress Kate Beckinsale has been named the sexiest woman alive by Esquire magazine.

Beckinsale, 36, is “beautiful, crisp, smart, tough”, the men’s magazine states in paying its annual tribute to her, which was last year bestowed on Halle Berry.

Other celebs to previously be named sexiest woman include Charlize Theron and Scarlett Johansson.

Beckinsale may be best known for her part in the epic film Pearl Harbor, playing the tragic character of a navy nurse in love with two best friends, one of them played by a dazzling Ben Affleck.

Her parents were actors, though her father died at the age of 31 while she was a child. Beckinsale went to Oxford to study literature. She has lately appeared in Underworld, Van Helsing and with funnyman Adam Sandler in Click.

Kate Beckinsale has vowed that she will never strip in movies because she even till this date feels terrible about her mother stripping on screen.

Beckinsale recalls, “The mortification of going to school! People said, ‘I’ve seen your mother naked.’ I literally had to beat up nine of them.” She says this because having been through the experience herself she does not wish that her daughter Lily goes through the same sort of humiliation.

You know that is good that something is holding her back for something that is soo common now. That’s why she is one of my favourite actresses because she doesn’t have to show off her body to know that she is hott.

Great to hear at least someone’s learning from mistakes or else in the rat race another actress would have said, you damn bitch, you show off your nipples I am going to go one step ahead to pose for playboy since I also know I would have great movie offers only when I do that.
