With celebrity ambassadors such as George Clooney, Americans are the best-looking people in the world, according to a survey of more than 5000 globe-trotting Brits.

Brazil hopped into second place in the poll, while Spain – homeland to Penelope Cruz – ranked third and Australia, launchpad of Hugh Jackman, Miranda Kerr and Russell Crowe, was fourth.

”America has got a lot on offer and boasts some of the sexiest people on the planet,” said a spokeswoman for Onepoll.com. “The likes of Jessica Alba, Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt all help America’s image as a hotbed of good-looking people. But with a population of more than 300 million, they do have an unfair advantage.

”England’s talent only got them into seventh place and despite Gerard Butler waving the flag for Scotland, they only just beat the Germans. But in fairness, when you think of good-looking countries, Sweden, Italy, France and Brazil talent all spring to mind before us lazy, pale Brits. If you’re looking for some fun in the sun, you now know where to head on holiday.”

Johnny Depp is the Sexiest Man Alive.

The Pirates of The Caribbean star landed the annual title from People magazine – for the second time in his life.

Johnny, 46, nudged out previous winner Hugh Jackman to the award. He also won in 2003.

Kate Coyne, senior editor at People, said that Depp has achieved an almost “iconic status in terms of sexiness”.

She told a US TV show: “Johnny Depp is someone who was sexy 10 years ago. He’ll be sexy 10 years from now. He’s someone who appeals to multiple generations of women.”

Depp joins other double-winners Brad Pitt, George Clooney and Richard Gere.

Leonardo DiCaprio’s autograph is fetching the highest bids among a swathe of star signatures up for grabs in a novel charity for AIDS orphans.

Hot celebs to sign elephant models for Project Zambi include George Clooney, Scarlett Johansson, Denzel Washington, Glenn Close, Hugh Jackman, Alicia Keys, Justin Timberlake, Jessica Biel, Taylor Swift, Heidi Klum, Jessica Simpson and Naomi Watts. Will Smith’s children, Willow and Jaden, are two of the smaller names.

So far bids for DiCaprio’s elephant are the highest at $400. Ten bids had been made at last count.

The elephants, which are collectible, are available on e-Bay until October 15. Stars can choose a charity that supports children orphaned by AIDS in Africa as destinations for proceeds raised.

Wolverine worked out for at least an hour and a half every other day for one year to get into the body needed to respond to the rigorous role of Wolverine. Not only that. Hugh Jackman also woke up at 4a.m. daily for his routine training and was greeted by a breakfast consisting of egg whites and a dry piece of brown toast. This was then followed by a meal of vegetables and steamed chicken which was given to him every three hours.

Hugh Jackman said he wanted Wolverine to look not only animalistic but freaky as well not just a muscle man. He said he wanted to achieve a look which would make people a little frightened and uncomfortable of him. But no matter how Hugh Jackman allows his character to get that badass attitude, he had every female shrieking with delight when they saw him emerge from a tank of water in all his glory. The actor is known for preparing rigorously for every role including benching 315 pounds and leg pressing 1,000 to prepare for the X-Men: The Last Stand, doing yoga and perfected key tai chi forms for The Fountain.

The World’s Sexiest Man Alive probably has another career in store for him in case his appeal as Wolverine wanes. Sexy man Hugh Jackman has proven he is not only a ladies man and an action man but also a stage man as he successfully hosted last Sunday’s Oscar’s Awards without anyone dozing off during the almost four-hour show. It was clear the Hugh Jackman was having a ball with his hosting job and this has rubbed off on the audience who got a good laugh with his spiels. It was probably a novelty seeing an actor with a good sense of humor and an Australian accent at that hosting the show instead of a comedian.

Hugh Jackman opened the show with a spoof of the best picture nominees for this year through a musical number. Despite criticisms from some sectors about the reformatting of the Oscar’s, the show was overall a success and the 6% increase in viewership ratings over last year is proof of that. The show was long enough to keep everyone bored but it seems Hugh Jackman was able to hold on to the audience at times when they were already prepared to fall off their sleep. He also did a number with Beyonce and the rest of the High School Musical gang.

The actor recently admitted that when he was younger he used to go to gay parties in order to hit on drunk women: “I probably shouldn’t be saying this, but I remember when I was about 19, me and my friend used to go to these dance parties which were 80 per cent gay guys, 18 per cent girls who were sick of heterosexual guys hitting on them, and then vultures like me and my mate. The vulture!” Well, yes, Hugh probably shouldn’t have said it, but it never hurts to reminisce the good old days of one’s youth from time to time. I wonder if this sprung the whole costume fetish: just another way to be a vulture and take advantage of your wife’s weakness towards your characters. Still, associating Wolverine with all of this is just so wrong.

That’s a title which I think is always better when referred to with George Clooney. But just ahead of the release of his epic movie “Australia” People’s Magazine have named Hugh Jackman as the Sexiest Man Alive for 2008.

The “X-Men” hunk has reportedly said that he is honored to receive the title, but his wife Deborra-Lee Furness isn’t surprised at all that her hubby received such a title.

Jackman told People, “[She said] ‘I could’ve told them that years ago!’ And then she said, ‘Obviously, Brad wasn’t available this year.’ And I said, ‘That was a joke, right?’” Well she was surely kidding, it’s been 12 years now to their marriage and hopefully it remains that way for another 120 years.

And Hugh had some great things to say about his wife as well, he said “In my early 20s, I didn’t have a regular girlfriend. I was single and really happy about it. And then when I was 26, I met Deb on [the Australian TV show] Correlli. She was my leading lady. It was just undeniable. I started planning to propose to her at about three months. We are happy. Deb and my kids have been the best things that have ever happened to me, without a doubt.”
