A source said “Ashley’s been very cocky about the whole situation this week – bragging saying they’ll be back together soon. But it couldn’t be more different for Cheryl. Ashley thinks there will be a proper separation for three to six months and hopefully that will be long enough for Cheryl to get things clear in her head. Then he hopes the pair will be able to mend their marriage. Cheryl was furious that he just turned up and was even more angry when he thought they would be able to talk. She’s sick to death of being labeled a pushover. She’s going to talk to him on her terms when she wants to. She was livid that he turned up at the house with hardly any warning.”

Cowell appeared at the party, cigarette in hand, with ex-girlfriend Terri Seymour. Also in attendance was Cole’s footballer husband Ashley Cole, her mother Joan Callaghan, and Girls Aloud bandmates Kimberley Walsh and Nicola Roberts. Other guests included Emma Bunton and Holly Willoughby.

Cowell is said to be thinking of launching his own venture, with Cole as its new face. Other reports say he is offering her £100,000 to sign on for the next series.
