With celebrity ambassadors such as George Clooney, Americans are the best-looking people in the world, according to a survey of more than 5000 globe-trotting Brits.

Brazil hopped into second place in the poll, while Spain – homeland to Penelope Cruz – ranked third and Australia, launchpad of Hugh Jackman, Miranda Kerr and Russell Crowe, was fourth.

”America has got a lot on offer and boasts some of the sexiest people on the planet,” said a spokeswoman for Onepoll.com. “The likes of Jessica Alba, Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt all help America’s image as a hotbed of good-looking people. But with a population of more than 300 million, they do have an unfair advantage.

”England’s talent only got them into seventh place and despite Gerard Butler waving the flag for Scotland, they only just beat the Germans. But in fairness, when you think of good-looking countries, Sweden, Italy, France and Brazil talent all spring to mind before us lazy, pale Brits. If you’re looking for some fun in the sun, you now know where to head on holiday.”

Entourage star Emmanuelle Chriqui has said she was shocked to find herself at the top of a Most Desirable Woman poll.

The 32-year-old beauty beat off competition from Megan Fox, Penelope Cruz and Monica Bellucci to claim first place as the Most Desirable Woman for 2010 in a poll by AskMen.com.

She said: “Of course it’s flattering, but it’s shocking! I mean, come on, have you seen the people on this list?”

Asked if she thinks she’s a sex symbol, she said: “No! Hell no! Absolutely not! It’s an incredible compliment. Do I believe it? Do I think so? Absolutely not. And I’m not being modest.”

Hollywood actress Jessica Alba may be voted one of the world’s most-beautiful stars but she said she ‘never feels sexy’.

The 28-year-old, who has a 17-month-old daughter with husband Cash Warren, admitted she never feels sexy.

At a party for celebrity photographer Mark Liddell’s new book Exposed: 10 years in Hollywood, she said to E! Online: “I never feel sexy. I never do, and that’s the truth.”

Alba added that she still doesn’t feel sexy even when she’s glammed up for photoshoots.

She said: “I’m always wondering when my next break is. I want to call home and talk to my hubby or talk to my friends or check on my daughter. I’m never thinking I’m sexy.”

Alba said that she does not want her toddler daughter Honor to follow in her footsteps and have a career in show-business.

She said: “I definitely don’t want her to do that. Anything but that!”

Stunning actress Kate Beckinsale claims she was ‘mortified’ after she was branded the Sexiest Woman Alive.

The Underworld star has revealed she also hates admitting she’s the owner of the title.

Beckinsale handed the honour by Esquire magazine earlier this year, knocking beautiful Halle Berry off the number one spot.

But the Brit star insists she has struggled to cope with the title – and finds it hard when people quiz her over her new sexy status.

She said: “It’s such a nice thing to happen and then immediately it’s mortifying.

“Somebody came up to me in the street and went: ‘Are you the sexiest woman alive?’ And I went: ‘Yes,’ and then I thought: ‘Errrggh, I can’t say yes to that!’

“I should be shot on sight for that – it’s awful!”
