Elle Macpherson’s beau in debt over resort

Jeff Soffer, a billionaire boyfriend of supermodel Elle Macpherson, is mired in financial trouble brought on by a bad investment in Miami.
Soffer’s family bought the Fontainebleau resort in Florida in 2005 and carried out a major revamp of the property, which was once favoured by the likes of Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley. The movies Goldfinger and Scarface were filmed at the resort.
Creditors claim the debt default agreement on a construction loan Soffer took out on the property worth $670 million has expired – with $60million still owing.
Lawyers for the hotel dispute the $60million debt. Fontainebleau executives told the Wall Street Journal they were “engaged in constructive negotiations with our lenders”. They said the hotel had not missed a debt repayment since opening last November.
Soffer, 45, is an amateur racecar driver and a sailor. His relationship with Macpherson surfaced in a photo of the supermodel in his arms at a racecar meet. The pair met in November at Harbour Island in the Bahamas.
