Jerry Lewis is going to have to walk alone on this one. The original Nutty Professor publicly apologized Tuesday for using an anti-gay slur—in the same vein as the one that got Isaiah Washington in so much trouble earlier this year—during his annual Labor Day telethon benefiting the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Oh good god get over it! This man does more good than his one comment does bad. But the gay and lesbian groups will beat it into the ground until they wind up ruining all the great things he has done. Get thicker skin and shut up. People should realize by now that all humor is, in the final analysis, at someone’s expense. Now Lewis’s gaff gives GLAAD an opportunity to get some free psa’s from Lewis. I don’t think they realize just how much ill will they generate using these tactics. They should have gracefully accepted Lewis’s apology and let it go at that. Lewis does more good than he ever has done bad. Everybody should keep that utmost in their minds.
